When Trump won the election, people were shocked. Some celebrated. Others sadly drank booze. A few happily drank vodka. Stephen’s wife, Cha-Wei? She channeled her anger and fear through needle felting, creating a replica of our new xenophobic head-of-state. This would later become the inspiration for a pro bono project called Felt-A-Frump–a needle felting kit whose profits go to the ACLU.
We began by setting up an LLC, which was a learning experience in and of itself. Lot of paperwork, math, you know, stuff creatives don’t usually excel at. We then spent weeks all over Chinatown, checking out different types of wool and foam pads. We tested a shit ton of needles. The thing had to be perfect.
We’re now up and rolling. If you’d like to get your kit, please hit us up or go to www.felt-a-frump.com. Then share it on social media with #FeltAFrump
Work that I have finished that i would like to share.
If your interested in having one, or a print let me know. They need a good home. They don't do any good piled up in drawer.
Sometimes people draw me, and that always makes me laugh.
ART WITH FRIENDS
One thing I really enjoy is collaborating with others. I took the initiative to reach out to my friends to start doing drawing collaborations.
It dons't matter if you think you can write or draw. It's just the act of doing it together that often results in some truly crazy shit that you normally wouldn't have thought of on your own.
It also serves a reason to just stop overthinking and make something.
People stop me while I draw on the subway and ask about my work. I wanted to create a business card that captured the essence of what I was doing. So I decided to make custom cards on water color paper, on which I could draw a unique picture on the spot. I decided to take it one step further and place two circles in the same spot on every card to create a connecting element.
Hand cut water color paper to size. Used my logo stamp, and then hand write the StephenPetronis.com on the backsides.
After Creating the cards. I turned 1 of them into a template. 2 circles in the same place. Every card will have the same 2 circles in the same place.
Drawing On the Run
I for the most part always have a sketchbook on Hand. On the train, in a meeting, sitting around waiting , etc. Here is some selects of my personal favorites.
